Your journal holds powerful stories about your growth. MoodHaven Insights lets you explore them — without giving up your privacy.
The Core Principle
Every insight MoodHaven generates is computed locally, on your device, after decrypting your entries in memory. Nothing is sent out. No cloud processing, no third-party models, no data leaving your machine.
Your words stay yours. Always.
What's Already in MoodHaven
The current release includes several built-in analytics features:
- Mood trends over time — track how your mood shifts across days, weeks, and months
- Day-of-week patterns — see which days you tend to feel best (and worst)
- Journaling streaks — your current and longest streak, total days journaled
- Mood distribution — a breakdown of how often you hit each mood level
- Tag analysis — see which themes appear most in your writing
All of this runs against your local encrypted database. The app decrypts, computes, displays — and never writes the results anywhere.
AI-Powered Insights (Coming)
We're adding a layer of AI insights that respects the same rules:
- Local-first: analyses use locally extracted metadata (mood scores, sentiment, writing patterns) — never raw journal text
- Opt-in: disabled by default, requires explicit setup
- BYOK option: bring your own OpenAI key, or run everything through a local Ollama instance
- Consent-gated: the UI walks you through exactly what data is used before enabling anything
The goal is to help you notice patterns you might miss — not to hand your private writing to a cloud service.
Writing Prompts
MoodHaven already generates contextual writing prompts based on your recent mood patterns and journaling frequency. These run entirely locally — no API call required.
If your mood has been declining, you might get a prompt about what's weighing on you. If you've been on a streak, you might get a reflection on what's been working.
The prompts adapt to you, privately.
Why Build Insights This Way?
Because your reflections are sacred spaces — not data points for someone else's analytics server.
MoodHaven isn't just about encryption — it's about respect. You should be able to learn and grow from your journal without sacrificing ownership or privacy.
Insights can empower you. But only if they respect you first.
